Throwback Thursday

Today I have an "Oldie, but Goodie" to share!

Stars in the Cabin, 68" x 94". Completed in the early 90's.

This is a pattern from a long-time hero of mine, Eleanor Burns.
She is, of course, the master of Quilt in a Day!
I have no idea how many days were spent on this, but I do know I have never finished a quilt in just one day! I love this quilt and it has seen a lot of use in my home over the years, mostly it serves as a guest quilt nowadays.

Thanks to Jen, at Quarter Inch From the Edge, I was prompted to pull it out and share with her new link-up party, "Throwback Thursday!"

Look at all those calico's!
I quilted it on my Bernina 1020, using stitch in the ditch - that was all I had the nerve for at the time!
The batting is polyester, so it is quite warm for the climate I am in now. What I love about poly though, is how fresh it looks even after being folded year after year - no creases!
My neighbors old wagon made for a fun time photographing. They purchased it (for a steal!) from an old casino that had closed, The Westward Ho. Just think of the stories it could tell...

Thank you Jennifer, for prompting us to share quilts that were made prior to our blogging years, I am looking forward to seeing what others have pulled from their closets!

I am blogging this morning from Glennallen, Alaska, where I am camping out in a trailer all month!
I have very limited/intermittent internet access and will surely fall behind, but love reading your comments when I do get a chance to catch up online! I wanted to share a view from the store, where I am working hard to help my SIL and her husband with the expansion and Grand Re-Opening, however Blogger is not allowing me to upload photos(?).
Thank goodness my posts for the month are all drafted!

  1. Oh, this is just beautiful, calicoes and all! I love the gradation of the blues. And it is stunning on that old wagon.

  2. You're right, it is a goodie. I am constantly amazed at what can be done with a log cabin block! This is no exception. I can't believe ANYONE can make a quilt in a day, but I wouldn't even aspire to it - too much pressure. This was worth the days you spent on it, it's beautiful!

  3. The perfect backdrop for that beautiful quilt Heidi! Love those red stars in all the intersections!
I remember when calicoes were just about all the choice we had. Still love them too!

  5. Oh Eleanor Burns! I wonder how many quilts made using her techniques we'll see over the course of Throwback Thursday! I know there are more than a few in my quilty past! This isn't one I've seen before... I'm loving it. And envisioning it re-done in all manner of modern fabrics. Good design stands the test of time! Thanks for linking up with Throwback Thursday!
