A Quilt for Mom

As patient as my mother has been, waiting for a quilt to call her own, I hopped a flight and delivered it in person!
Blue and Yellow Quilt, 72" x 96"
Lots of blue batiks, White Kona, and Mom's favorite yellow by Me & My Sister's Designs
Batting: Quilter's Dream Wool
I scored the backing fabric for a song on eBay: "Tess" by Max & Nobie for Moda
Quilted with a large, Dahlia-type pattern, with Aurifil #2021,
This was a pretty quick, all-over pattern to quilt and it gave a comfy texture!
This shot may show the quilting a bit better:

This is my second finish from those I listed as my First Quarter GOALS for FAL 2016!

  3. Fabulous finish! I love how simple the blocks are, and then how great it looks putting the two together. This would be a great leader-ender and a great scrappy quilt, too. I'm going to dig out my 9-patch swap blocks and see what I can do to make one myself. Thanks for the inspiration! Your quilting is perfect for this, too. How exciting to be able to fly over and hand it to her in person! ~dezertskyquilting

  22. WHat a beautiful finish Heidi! I bet your Mom loves it as much as her little friend on her lap.
With the quilt design you used, did you just start in the center with the circle flower type center then petal the heck out of it? Or did you have several dahlia stylized flowers spread through out the whole quilt?
Answer in a psot if you want since I follow you and thanks for sharing.

    1. Thank you! They are large Dahlia's, probably 24" or so. I started with the circle and just kept going til it seemed big, then started another. Many of the outer ones are half-flowers that were started from the edges to fill in spaces.
