Playing with fabric is perhaps my favorite activity. I love creating stacks and placing them around my quilting room. And you know, every now-and-then they actually turn into a project :)
The goal I"ve selected for March began as one of those bundles nearly one year ago. I finally cut into it last summer, to create my Southwest Summer Block (tutorial here). In February I ordered hardware from Bagmaker Supply, and now I plan to finish a tote bag this month! I am making The Marrakesh Overnighter from The Better Bagmaker by Nicole Mallalieu.
I started quilting the panels for it this weekend.
I also attached the metal feet to the bottom piece, but I am not sure the template plastic I used is going to work out.
Nicole recommends using template plastic for the base, but I don't think hers has been rolled in a tube for ten years...
This piece gets topstitched over several more layers for the bottom base - I am hoping it will flatten out a bit.
Should be easy enough to remove it though, if I need to - those feet are simply large brads.
Did I mention how much I enjoy curating bundles?
This one began with the Heather Ross Briar Rose print, with the little shamrocks:
Very March-like I thought, and I went about selecting ten more prints for the bundle of 5" strips. They're all described in an Etsy listing at Red Letter Fabrics.
Bagmaker Supply has also offered a $20.00 discount to one lucky prize-winner this month!
Please take a moment to visit their shop if you are interested in zippers and professional looking supplies for finishing purses!
What do you have in the works for March?
Spring cleaning?

Such a nice bag, and I love your fabrics. Have fun with it!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteMy first time joining in. Love all those beautifl
colors you've selected for your bag. Have a great day!
I love that orange you've chosen. It will be such a bright and cheery bag. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThat's a ver ambitious goal! Good luck! It will be beautiful when finished. XO
ReplyDeleteI use corrugated plastic for tote bag bottoms. It's lightweight, strong, and easy to cut to size. That's the kind used in campaign signs, which are readily available during election years.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I still have two in the garage from 2012! Thx.
DeleteI'm looking forward to seeing your finished bag. It looks quite interesting.
ReplyDeleteLove the use of large brads for purse feet!
ReplyDeleteThe brads will be great feet! Maybe if you put it in the sun to warm it and then stacked heavy books on it for a while, it would flatten some? Love the bundle you've picked for this month's prize. My goal is to simply get a backing made for a finished top. I've been dreading it because the quilt is so big, but I'm going to buckle down and tackle that job!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun project to work on, even if the plastic has been rolled up for ten years! I had to laugh on that one! There is a lady in my once a month sewing in person group though who took a class on bag making and now comes with and makes the most beautiful ones. She customizes so they exactly suit her needs. Anyway, I know you will like your bag once it's done. I had no idea about using brads for the feet though. Great idea! Best of luck!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shout out on my Adoption Event! I appreciate the support.
ReplyDeleteYour bundles of fabric are always so pretty!
Fabulous fabrics in your bag...it's going to be so cute!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing your finished bag, Heidi!
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat bag. I second Susan's advice for setting it in the sun.
ReplyDeleteGood luck Heidi! :)
ReplyDeleteLove that orange print! Good luck with your goal.
ReplyDeleteThat's going to be a very cute bag. Good luck with this month's goal.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with the bag and good luck with your goal!
