This will be my first time using the Quilt-As-You-Go method. It seems like a good idea since this is certain to be a large finish!
Still working on some big-stitch quilting! The circles are made using the method I describe in my tutorial for making heart shaped applique. They can be finished as reverse applique like I am doing here, or with the seams clipped and pressed inward for a more traditional finish.
I kept notes from each day regarding the choice in dots, used muslin for my backing, and wrote about the month on the backside using a bronze Sharpie. It worked well until the ink began running out.
I guess that just adds to the character ;)
How's that for documentation?
I haven't been this excited about a quilt in awhile! It's no wonder that so many people are jumping on board with this quilt along: It is addictive, and FUN!
There are a lot of beautiful DOTS linked up Quilty Folk!
Wow very beautiful for now, I only started mine january 1, QAYG is a good choice.
ReplyDeleteYour dots are looking absolutely fantastic. So much dimension and immediate gratification with your QAYG process.
ReplyDeleteMaking this as quilt as you go looks to be very wise. You've got some fun fabrics in those circles.
ReplyDeleteI really like the reverse applique look. QYAG makes SO much sense. Like OMG--small bites. I hope you can keep up with the documentation; it will be fun to look back on your year.
ReplyDeleteI love that reverse appliqué thing that you are making, in some way it reminds me of portholes. Very nice!!
ReplyDeleteThese dots are gorgeous! I love the color combos.
ReplyDeleteOh, your dots are too cute! I love the scrappy happy feeling of this, it's going to be gorgeous. :) Also, love the reverse applique you're using, gives it a little something extra. :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks awesome all put together like this and you're only 3 months in.
ReplyDeleteIt does look striking, what size are your circles
ReplyDeleteThe writing seems normal sized so are your circles smaller maybe? That would make sense of a 365 block finished cover lol
Lovely! I just looked more closely at your quilt because I will do quilt as you go too for the first time. Love your quilting. Thought about quilting by hand, because I should have time in 30 days to do it. But I´m still undecided. Looking forward to see more.
ReplyDeleteI love what you're doing with your dots. They're turning out wonderfully and adding the little sayings, your word of the year, and documenting your choices on the back really your quilt something special.
ReplyDeleteLooking fab! X
ReplyDeleteHow lovely these tiny squares look, I thought you and made up a baby quilt it looks so finished!!!!! Great idea and when you stop making these tiny quilty squares yours will be finished, wish I and thought of that as I enjoy quilt as you go projects. Cheers Glenda Australia.
ReplyDeleteGreat to see your quilt developing as time passes. Lovely to keep a record of events, too.
ReplyDeleteOh this is cute! I am doing a circles quilt too and still debating about hand quiting vs fmq. I like the look of your hand quilting!
ReplyDeleteIt will be fun to watch this one.
ReplyDeleteI like what you're doing with this, Heidi I might have to study up on the QAYG...never done it before..
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful Heidi - no wonder you are so excited!
ReplyDeleteIn a way, you made your own text fabric in the back... it looks really cool because you have beautiful handwriting!
That's a different way to QAYG. The Backing and Batting is a solid piece. Love the dots!
ReplyDeleteLove your documentation! soooo I'm scrolling through your circle posts...I think I figured out your blocks are 6 1/2"?? And how are ya picking out your backgrounds...I love your scrappy look> :)V
ReplyDeleteI just love how you are showcasing each circle. I finished my version...got to 200 and it was getting too big for my old hands and I am now doing some hand quilting on it. Wow, what a good idea to quilt as you go. Your quilt will be a magnificent reminder of your year!
