'Cozy Afternoon' is a free Block of the Month Quilt, designed and led by Jacquelynne Steves. The sweet little mouse is her artwork as well - I copied it from the theme fabric I will be using in the borders, from her line, "Joy, Love, Peace, Noel".
Here are all my 'Cozy Christmas' blocks so far:
I am having fun with these critters!
Only one more block to go and then we get an additional month for the setting! Yep, that means there is still time to receive the patterns! Visit Jacquelynne's blog, The Art of Home to sign up.
Jacquelynne has generously offered an electronic 'pattern bundle' giveaway -
This bundle will be awarded to one lucky reader at each stop in the blog hop!
To enter the giveaway:
Please leave a comment on this post prior to Sunday August 16th, at midnight.
I am interested to know of your favorite authors and/or books! A short, yet heartwarming book I recommend - a favorite since I was young, "That Quail, Robert" by Margaret Stanger.
Have you read any of the books (to the right) I have conquered this year?
BTW, I am a 'hands free' reader! 80% of the books I read are on CD, often with headphones!
Followers of my blog may leave a second comment for another entry! I know, I know, shameless right? But followers should be rewarded, yes!! And I am coming up on my 300th post so this is good timing - hint hint;)
The winners will be contacted by email on Wednesday, the 19th!
Remember to leave your email address if you are a no-reply blogger!
Thank you so much for visiting! Please know how much I appreciate your comments even though I may not be able to reply to everyone during a giveaway!
I love your little critters, too! What fun!!
ReplyDeleteI see that you are a fan of Ken Follett. Have you read any of Anita Diamant's books? "The Red Tent" was so good, I got her newest, " The Boston Girl," and found it very satisfying, too.
ReplyDeleteThank you Glenna! I enjoyed The Red Tent too and have now put The Boston Girl on my list!

Love, love your joyful mouse....Jacquelynne's critters are so adorable! I'd love to know how you did it...did you just trace over the fabric to get the mousie? I wish that I had time to read....we have a huge collection of books, most antiquarian, and I have so little time to read! quiltnsrep(at)yahoo(dot)com
ReplyDeleteThank you Jacque! I did trace them (for personal use only of course!!), then I used my copier to enlarge them.
Deletei love this Christmas version, very creative. i love anything written by sandra dallas especially "buster midnight's cafe" and "true sisters".
ReplyDeleteThank you! I will look for Sandra Dallas!

Love the Christmas quilt, especially the joyful mouse.
ReplyDeleteWhat great little guys you have in your centers. Very cute.
ReplyDeleteI love the fact there is a choice to applique, embroider, or piece the block. Mix and match! Whatever your mood is that day.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very versatile pattern with unique blocks too!
Deletefyi, you are a no-reply blogger!
I like reading on my tablet best. I can make the print bigger!!
ReplyDeleteYour Christmas version is adorable. I guess when I read I am old fashioned. I still love to hold the book in my hands and turn those pages.
ReplyDeleteI have many favorite authors. Just to name a few... Ernest Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea" is lovely. Anita Shreve is amongst my favorites as well. Loving the critters.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I enjoyed The Pilot's Wife and really should check out more of Anita's books! Thanks for sharing Anita!

Such a fun way to create these blocks with your themed fabric and delightful little critters. I don't have any books in mind; however, I love reading Kindle books, as I can also read them on my phone or computer. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity, this month's selection is very appealing.
ReplyDeleteYour Blocks are so cute :-). I too love to read and have been reading Kenn Follett. Right now I am reading a Danish biography about the swedish writter Astrid Lindgren. Very interesting :-)
ReplyDeleteI love your blocks!! Sew sew cute! For me it is Anne Perry and James Patterson either in book form and CD's and I love "old time radio shows"..I have them on tape.."Only the Shadow Knows!!!"
ReplyDeleteI love how you made them into Christmas! My favorite books are the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon!
ReplyDeleteI read so many books and so many authors, it's hard to pick a favorite. Right now I am reading the Annie's Attic mystery series (there are about 30 of them), all with a crafting theme and I have 2 others on order now, also "crafty" mysteries.
ReplyDeleteI decided to do the applique method for the blocks, even though the other two methods are probably easier. I think I was embroidering before the age of 5 and started sewing. I was able to make clothing by the age of 7. I stopped using patterns about 3 decades ago, as they seemed so tedious. I like to just look at a piece of fabric and "wing it!" I used the same wing it method for my first quilt at age 16, and the results were...uhmmm...not great. lisajcowell@cs.com
I like the way you have taken the blocks and made it your own with your Christmas theme.
ReplyDeleteVery cute! Thanks for sharing your twist on the block it gives me something to think about for another quilt!
DeleteI love Anne Tyler and just read her latest, A Spool of Blue Thread. Terrific blocks.
ReplyDeleteI love the little critters on your blocks! Sadly, I am not a reader. Besides quilt books anyway.
ReplyDeleteI love mysteries and Charles Todd is one of my favorite authors, although he is really a mother and son duo who write together. Love your wintery blocks.
ReplyDeleteI love your cozy Christmas blocks. sew cute they are. I love Christian author Julie Lessman. She's awesome
ReplyDeleteI'm an email follower
ReplyDeleteAdore the sweet blocks! I love Louise Penny mysteries. She is a great writer!
ReplyDeleteThis mouse is my favorite! Right now I'm reading Agatha Christie for the first time! Crazy - I grew up with her books in the house, my sister is nicknamed Tuppence and mom and daddy referenced them alot... But until last week I never read one. (I'm on my 6th or 7th one now)

ReplyDeleteAdorable! I like the use of the prints in the block centers!
ReplyDeleteThere are so many great authors, how can I choose? I'm hoping to read the sequel for To Kill a Mockingbird..
ReplyDeleteThese are such lovely blocks. I am going to love this quilt when it is done! Beautiful colors and beautiful designs.
ReplyDeleteI love all books so trying to put down just one or two of my favorite is too hard. If it has a cover and has pages in between them I will pick it up and see if it is something that I might like to read. I'll have to look and see some of the books you have listed might interest me. I'm ready for some new "favorites"!
Love your take on the blocks. Currently reading Take Me With You by Catherine Ryan Hyde.
ReplyDeleteHeidi, this is going to be the coolest quilt! Each one of the critters is absolutely adorable, and as a growing group they just get cuter and cuter. :)
ReplyDeleteLove your version of the blocks! Such cute critters.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteI loved Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl

ReplyDeleteWhat a cute added bonus - love the humor in your work!
ReplyDeleteAnything by Elizabeth Berg. I'm saving my pattern each month to do over the winter. It's just too stinkin hot to sew here right now, lol!
ReplyDeleteLove the little critters you are using in your blocks. I've been reading a very old book...The Virginian, by Owen Wister. Somehow I missed this one when I was in school but am enjoying it now as a retired grandma. I really love the humor in it.
ReplyDeleteI love your Christmas blocks, the little critters are so, so cute. Thanks for sharing. My favorite book this summer is The Storyteller by Jody Picoult. It was really well written. I have also read Bittersweet, The Guernsey
ReplyDeleteLiteracy and Potato Peel Society, Snow Flower & the Secret Fan, Snow Falling on Cedars and the Shoemaker's wife. Gosh so many good books out there to read.
Heidi, bem interessantes seus blocos... este do Natal é bem lindinho e adorei o vermelho predominante. Estou feliz por poder participar deste projeto, mesmo tendo um pouco de dificuldade na costura e também com as medidas (polegadas). Aqui no Brasil usamos centímetros... Felicidades! Abraço!

ReplyDeleteDon't you just love 'books on tape/CD'? I have a book going a big share of my day...I can cook, clean, sew, quilt and still listen. I go to the library and pick up any book CD that looks good to me. Sometimes if I enjoy an author's book I'll read more by that author but usually I'm pretty liberal and varied with my choices.

ReplyDeleteWhat adorable little critters and beautiful fabrics.

Now my favorite authors are mystery writers - jaJance, cjBox, etc. My email is mtbratke4@q.com
ReplyDeletelove the mouse - email is mtbratke4@q.com
ReplyDeleteThanks for pointing out your book list. I don't know if you're recommending them but there are several I'll reserve at the library. Of your list I've read The Guernsey Literary... Society and The Shoemaker's Daughter (and loved both) and Follett's Pillars of the Earth (which I didn't). I recently finished Kristin Hannah's The Nightingale, about two sisters, the French Resistant, and World War II in France. I could hardly put it down and when I finished I wondered if any other book would be good enough to start. I thought it was excellent. Other recent fiction books that I think are worth recommending are Annie Dunn, The Boston Girl, Water from My Heart, and Once We Were Brothers, to name a few. I didn't read The Civil War Quilt but I read the sister volume, The Farmer's Wife Quilt Sampler and thoroughly enjoyed the excerpts of letters from farm wives.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for the book list.
I love those little critters, they are just adorable.

ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable quilt this is going to be. I LOVE all the critters that you have used, they are just too cute. Hope you post what the final quilt looks like as I would love to see it. Wouldn't mind using those delightful creatures in a quilt myself. Thanks for sharing.
